Emmaus Road is a community of house churches.  These churches are designed to be smaller bodies that meet each week and live out the purposes of the church, which are worship, evangelism, discipleship, ministry, and fellowship.  Each one is truly a church in the simplest and purest form; yet they are also designed to be connected to one another and to come together for times of worship, fellowship, and ministry. 

We call them house churches based on the model of the early church meeting in homes in Acts 2:42-47, but we realize they can also meet anywhere life happens: a home, restaurant, coffee shop, college campus, etc.  Since we do not want to limit them to meeting in homes, we also call them journey groups.  Our house churches are designed to foster genuine community by sharing and walking through life together, so these journey groups also provide an environment of journeying through life together.
